Birthday girl Creamer wants to enjoy herself in LPGA Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Birthday girl Paula Creamer has one wish – to enjoy herself when she returns to Malaysia in October to compete in the US$1.9mil LPGA Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) on Oct 13-16.
The world No. 9 American, who is in town with compatriot Natalie Gulbis as part of promotional efforts for the LPGA Malaysia, celebrated her 25th birthday at the driving range of the KLGCC yesterday.
Creamer, who will play in Malaysia for the first time after missing the inaugural tournament last year due to a thumb injury, is “excited” about returning in two months’ time.
“I’m very excited to be in Malaysia since this is my first time here and I hope that it will bring me lots of good memories,” said Creamer, who is dubbed the “Pink Panther” because of her fondness for the colour.
“I’ve had a walkthrough of the KLGCC course and it looks impressive but I think it will suit my style of play and I’m looking to win.
“Having struggled with injury last year and early this year, I’m glad to be back and playing pretty well recently. Hopefully, I will win although it will be a tough tournament with a lot of top players,” added the 2010 US Open champion.
Meanwhile Gulbis, who finished 12th in last year’s tournament, is looking forward to a good result after going through a slump in form this year.
Gulbis tied for 18th in the LPGA Thailand and only tied at 32nd in the US Open last month.
“This year is one of the worst in my career but I’m looking forward to returning to Malaysia because I like it here,” said the 28-year-old Gulbis.
“It is a really beautiful country with all its different cultural aspects. Plus, I really love the weather here as well, the warmer the better.”
Creamer and Gulbis arrived in Malaysia on Monday for a five-day tour to visit the country’s tourist attractions.
